12-Year-Old Adebola Whose ‘Intestine Went Missing In Lagos Hospital’ Dies

Adebola Akin-Bright, the 12-year-old boy whose intestine was inexplicably lost during surgery at a private hospital in Lagos state, has passed away.
According to a source close to the family, Akin-Bright died on Tuesday evening after having severe complications and was rushed to the intensive care unit of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, where he was ultimately pronounced dead.
It would be recalled that a recent viral video has captured Deborah Abiodun, the concerned mother of the by, reaching out to Nigerians and the Lagos governor to urgently address her son’s deteriorating health.
Abiodun disclosed that her initially underwent surgery after being diagnosed with a ruptured appendix at a private hospital in lle Epo, Lagos.
Sadly, complications arose, resulting in intestinal obstruction following the surgery, as her son’s intestine started leaking just seven days after a second operation at the same facility.
Earlier this month, the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, visited Akin-Bright at the LASUTH, Ikeja, to assess his condition and subsequently offered to take over his medical bills.
During plenary on Tuesday, the Lagos State House of Assembly urged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to instruct the Ministry of Health to urgently release funds for Akin-bright’s overseas medical treatment.
Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa, also called for the immediate arrest of the doctor responsible for the initial surgery at the private hospital, Obitoks Medical Centre in the Alimosho area of the state, which resulted in the tragic loss of Akin-Bright’s small intestine.
Investigations into this alarming incident are ongoing.
Majority Leader, Noheem Adams, who chaired the ad-hoc committee investigating the circumstances surrounding the missing intestine, revealed they made some shocking discoveries during their visit to Akin-Bright at the LASUTH.
“We made some shocking discoveries in the course of our investigation. The incident is very unusual, but we want the boy to survive, and we know Mr. Speaker is very interested in his survival too,” Adams stated.
Sadly, despite efforts taken to save his life, Akin-Bright tragically passed away on Tuesday evening.
