17 abducted in Nasarawa regain freedom

TRACKING___Seventeen persons kidnapped last week by gunmen in Gwargwada-Sabo community in Gadabuke development area of Nasarawa have regained freedom.

One of them confided in newsmen they paid heavy ransom to their abductors.

He said that the 17 of them raised N2,020,000 in addition to food items like grains and cooking oil among others for their abductors.

He said the poor abductees were directed to give grains while the bouyant ones parted with money depending on their financial status.

He said the kidnappers have informants who feed them on the social status of all their victims.

Gunmen suspected to kidnappers had invaded a mosque and abducted 17 in Gwargwada-Sabo community.

The victims included a library staff with the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, three ladies and 13 other male adults.

The Chief Imam of the community mosque and children were spared during the raid.

The kidnappers demanded N50 million on the first day but reduced their ransom to N1 million for each of the abductors after negotiation.

Nasarawa police spokesperson, ASP Ramhan Nansel said: ” I don’t know whether ransom was paid, all I could say is that they released the captives due to the pressure by police men who were trailing them”.
