2023: Ambode Has Not Joined Us Yet – LP Chairman

The Chairman of the Labour Party in Lagos State, Ifagbemi Awamaridi, on Thursday, debunked the report that the former governor of the state, Akinwunmi Ambode, has joined the party.
Awamaridi in a chat with Premium Times disclosed that Ambode is still a member of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
There had been speculations that Ambode dumped the ruling party for LP to contest in the 2023 governorship election on the party’s platform.
The former governor of Lagos State trended on the microblogging platform, Twitter after some social media users claimed that Ambode would run on the platform LP.
A source close to the former governor also stated that Ambode has not dumped the APC for LP.
The source who spoke on condition of anonymity said, “He’s a bona fide and committed APC member who will work for the success of the party’s candidate at the state and federal levels.”
Ambode has been away from the political scene since losing the primary of the APC to the current governor of the state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
He was defeated by Sanwo-Olu who had the backing of the national leader of the party, Bola Tinubu in 2019.
