Dr. Mutiu Agboke, the Osun Resident Electoral Commissioner, has reiterated that the outcomes of the 2023 general elections will be determined by the votes of the electorates.

Agboke stated during an interview in Osogbo on Wednesday that the Commission would remain neutral and independent, providing a level playing field for all political parties and candidates in accordance with electoral laws.

Agboke also stated that the Commission had begun a series of sensitization programs and consultations with major stakeholders in order to ensure a smooth and credible general election.

“It is just about 100 days until the general election,” he says, “and I want to assure you that the Commission is fully prepared.” The recent attacks in Osun and Ogun will have no impact on the organization’s ability to hold credible, free, and fair elections. Regardless of the attacks on INEC facilities, the commission would easily adjust and recover. The effect will not be felt by INEC, but we will be wasting taxpayers’ money. This is where we must think deeply and wisely.

“I urge all politicians to campaign for people who have good manifestos.” The era of election tampering has passed. The election winner will be determined by popular vote, and there is no way around it. Our politicians should also avoid vote buying, which is a criminal offense. We all have roles to play in restoring sanity to our political system, and all hands must be on deck to make Nigeria great.”

Agboke described the recent attack on one of its offices in Osun State as unfortunate, adding that the inferno had no effect on any of its sensitive or insensitive materials.

The Osun REC, on the other hand, warned any group or individual planning any other attack on its offices or facilities to avoid the act because law enforcement agencies have been instructed to deal decisively with anyone culpable of the act.

He also urged parents and guardians to warn their children and wards against being used as political weapons by politicians.

“We have resolved to crush anyone who attempts to attack or destroy our facilities in the future.” What matters is that we organize a credible platform for people to vote, and the electorate expects to vote for candidates of their choice. “Any other attempt to destabilize the process will not be tolerated,” he said.
