2023 FIFA WWC: Nnadozie’s heroic display against Canada in Group B opener attracts award, praises

The name – Chiamaka Nnadozie is now a brand and spotlight name in the football space especially in the ongoing 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, and it all happened after the Super Falcons goalkeeper brilliantly saved Christine Sinclair’s crucial penalty.
Evidently, Waldrum’s Super Falcons put up a spirited display against the 7th ranked team in the world and the defending Olympics champions Canada in their first game of the 2023 Women’s World Cup tournament.
Recall that Nigeria and Canada played out a goalless draw at Melbourne’s Rectangular Stadium on Friday, with heroics from Super Falcons goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie, who in the 50th minute saved a penalty from Canada’s all-time scorer Christine Sinclair to deadlock the game at 0-0, earning the Super Falcons a point.
Nnadozie also made other decisive saves to keep the Super Falcons in the game.
With the goalless draw, Nigeria and Canada are now trailing Australia with two points. The co-hosts Australia had earlier beaten the Republic of Ireland in the group’s other game on Thursday.
As a result of her exceptional performance, Nnadozie was awarded the Man of the Match in the Nigeria battle against the Olympics Champions Canada.
Super Falcons head coach, Randy Waldrum, praised the Paris FC goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie, following her pivotal role in Nigeria’s goalless draw against Canada in the opening Group B game.
“Chiamaka has done this before, and I will say this, and I will embarrass her in front of you all, but I think she’s one of the best young goalkeepers in the World right now,” Randy said.
The co-hosts Australia currently tops the group with 3 points, Canada and Nigeria both 2nd and 3rd with 1 point each, and the Republic of Ireland at the bottom without a point
The Super Falcons of Nigeria will face Australia in their next match on Thursday, 27th July, at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.
