The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has expressed confidence in clinching the 2023 presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
TrackNews understands Wike stated this on Monday during his visit to Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum as part of his consultations towards the 2023 presidency.
He commended Zulum for successes recorded in the area of security in Borno State and pointed out the cleanliness of Maiduguri the state capital.
“I am happy with you, I commend your work, I have seen the cleanliness of the state,” Wike said.
According to the Rivers State Governor, delegates have given him assurances that they are behind him ahead of the PDP primaries.
Zulum on his part, appreciated Governor Wike for his concerns and good gestures towards Borno State in the fight against insecurity.
He charged the presidential hopeful and others like him to ensure they put the unity and peace of Nigeria above their personal interests.
The Borno Governor submitted that regardless of party affiliation, everyone must work together to protect and strengthen Nigeria’s democracy.
Meanwhile, the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Samson Ayokunle, has disclosed that the 2023 general election might not hold if the current insecurity in the country continues.
Ayokunle made this known during a security dialogue retreat jointly organised by the Global Peace Foundation and Vision Africa in Abuja on Monday.
The CAN president expressed fear that bandits and terrorists will overrun the country before the forthcoming elections if their activities are not checked.
He, however, asked the Muhammadu Buhari-led government to expose those financing terrorism and insecurity in the country and bring them to book.
