2025 budget: Ministry of Works budget N310m for fuel, lubricants
The impact of fuel prices has significantly affected the upward budget proposals of the Ministry of Works as it remained determined to power road infrastructure for Nigerians and the ancillary deliverables along the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The ministry, whose expenditure for fueling vehicles and purchases of lubricants for the various mechanicals was appropriated at NN55,000,000(Fifty Five Million Naira only in 2the 024 fiscal years has made an upward proposal of N310,300,000 (Three Hundred and Ten Million, Three Hundred and Thousand Naira) only.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu last week said in the joint session of the National Assembly that the 2024 budget performed by 50 percent.
Given the fluctuating character of fuel prices on which a lot of autos run in the ministry, the budget has spiked by about 82% against the funding of fuel and lubricants in 2024.
In its proposal to the 10th National Assembly for the approval for fueling and provisions of other lubricants to sustain the engines of the various autos, in the ministry, the ministry seeks the approval, for the sum of N310,300,000.
Breaking down the request to the national assembly, the Ministry listed Motor vehicles fuel cost at N100,000,000 (One Hundred Million Naira) only.
For the other transport equipment, it proposed a fuel cost of N10,300,000 (Ten Million Three Hundred Thousand) while it seeks the approval of N200,000,000 (Two Hundred Million Naira) only for plant/generator fuel cost.
Tribune checks of the extant appropriation and the proposal showed that in 2024, the National Assembly approved for fuel & lubricants the sum of N55,000,000 (FFifty-FiveMillion Nair) only.
The amount was distributed thus: 2020801 motor vehicle fuel cost at N25,000,000 while other transport equipment fuel cost was N10,000,000, (Ten Million Naira) only.
