The Member representing Ogbia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Mitema Obordor PhD, has carried out renovation and rehabilitation works and donated medical drugs to Opume Primary Health Care Centre as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery in his constituency.

The intervention followed the earlier supply of drugs to the Onuebum/Otuokpoti Health Centre, which was completed a day earlier, in line with the lawmaker’s schedule to improve access to essential health services across communities in Ogbia Federal Constituency.

At the Opume Primary Health Care Centre, Hon. Obordor oversaw the handover of drugs to community leaders and the heads of health facilities serving the area.

He stated that the medical supplies, valued at millions of naira, were carefully procured to address common health challenges and to support primary healthcare delivery at the grassroots level.

The lawmaker emphasized that the donation was part of his commitment to improving the well-being of his constituents and reducing the burden of medical expenses on vulnerable residents.

He stressed that access to quality healthcare remains a critical development priority and said primary healthcare centres play a key role in preventing disease and managing basic health conditions.

Hon. Obordor urged healthcare providers and facility managers to ensure that the drugs were dispensed strictly free of charge to patients. He cautioned against any form of commercialization of the donated supplies, noting that the purpose of the intervention was to make healthcare services affordable and accessible to all, especially low-income families.

He also highlighted the importance of accountability in the management of public health resources. According to him, proper use of the donated drugs would help improve trust between the community and healthcare providers and ensure that the intervention achieves its intended impact.

In addition to the drug donation, renovation and rehabilitation works were carried out at the Opume Primary Health Care Centre to improve the facility’s overall condition. The upgrades were aimed at creating a more conducive environment for both patients and healthcare workers, while enhancing service delivery at the centre.

Hon. Obordor noted that infrastructure improvements are necessary to complement the supply of drugs and medical consumables. He explained that functional facilities, combined with essential medicines and trained personnel, are critical to achieving better health outcomes in rural and semi-urban communities.
Responding on behalf of the community and health workers, Chief Donald Ase expressed appreciation to the lawmaker for the intervention. He described the donation and renovation works as timely and beneficial, particularly in addressing healthcare needs at the community level.

Chief Ase assured Hon. Obordor that the drugs would be administered at no cost to patients, in line with the directive given during the handover. He pledged that health workers would ensure transparency and fairness in the distribution of the medical supplies.

Community members and health officials present at the event acknowledged the positive impact of the intervention, noting that access to essential drugs often remains a major challenge for residents seeking medical care. They expressed optimism that the support would help reduce preventable illnesses and improve overall public health in the area.

The donation and rehabilitation project forms part of Hon. Obordor’s broader constituency outreach efforts focused on health, education, and community development. The lawmaker reiterated his commitment to supporting initiatives that directly improve the quality of life of residents in Ogbia Federal Constituency.
