In a recent post on Channels tv, former Senator Thompson Sekibo has declared that the Rivers Ijaw People’s Congress will work to prevent Governor Siminalayi Fubara from securing a second term in office.

Sekibo made the declaration on Monday during a political visit by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to Abua-Odual Local Government Area in Rivers State.

Speaking on behalf of the Rivers Ijaw People’s Congress, the former senator described Governor Fubara as ungrateful and announced his group’s support for the minister.

“We will go against him and we will make sure he doesn’t come back again,” Sekibo said, referring to the governor’s potential re-election bid.

The former lawmaker pledged that his group would mobilize against Fubara’s political ambitions, citing grievances over what he termed the governor’s ingratitude.

“We are good people. The man that addressed and all the people will give their support to whatever he says. We will go against him and we will make sure he doesn’t come back again,” Sekibo stated during the event.

The remarks represent a significant escalation in the ongoing political crisis between Wike and his successor, Governor Fubara. The conflict has divided political loyalties across Rivers State, with various groups and stakeholders taking sides.

Wike, who was accompanied by family members, friends, and political associates during the visit, has been touring the state’s 23 local government areas to rally support amid his dispute with the governor.

The visit to Abua-Odual forms part of what the minister has described as a “thank you” tour, though it has been marked by strong political messaging against the current administration.
