A federal high court in Abuja has returned the case file of Yakubu Adamu, Bauchi state commissioner for finance, to the chief judge for reassignment.
The order was made on Tuesday by Emeka Nwite, the presiding judge, following the resumption of regular court activities after the annual yuletide vacation. Nwite had handled the matter in his capacity as the vacation judge during the court break.
Yakubu Adamu is standing trial on charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. The anti-graft agency is prosecuting the Bauchi commissioner on a 10-count charge bordering on terrorism financing and money laundering.
Adamu, who previously worked as a branch manager at Polaris Bank in Bauchi, was arraigned in connection with alleged financial transactions that the EFCC claims are linked to unlawful activities.
With the return of the case file, the matter is expected to be reassigned to another judge by the chief judge of the federal high court. The reassignment will allow the trial to continue under a new presiding judge as part of normal court procedure following the end of the vacation period.
