Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has expressed deep sorrow over passing of the revered Oba of Badagry (Paramount Ruler of Badagry Kingdom) and Permanent Vice Chairman of the Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs, Oba Babatunde Akran, the Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi I, who joined his ancestors at the age of 89.
Describing his passing as a great loss to Badagry, Lagos State, and Nigeria, the governor praised the late monarch’s nearly 49 years of service marked by wisdom, unity, cultural preservation, and commitment to development. He noted that Oba Akran, as a first-class traditional ruler, left a lasting legacy that the people of Badagry Kingdom will continue to cherish. He also highlighted Oba Akran’s role as a stabilising force, promoter of Badagry’s cultural heritage and tourism, and advocate for progress.
Sanwo-Olu commiserated with the royal family and people of Badagry, urging them to immortalise the monarch’s legacies. The governor prayed for strength for all affected by the loss.
