Islamic scholar and prominent cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has warned that any attempt by foreign powers to destabilise or break up Nigeria will be fiercely resisted, insisting that no group can displace the Fulani people from the country.

Sheikh Gumi issued the warning while reacting to what he described as growing external interference in the internal affairs of African nations, including Nigeria. He specifically mentioned former United States President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in his remarks.

According to the cleric, Nigeria’s unity remains non-negotiable, regardless of internal challenges or disagreements among its diverse ethnic and religious groups.

“We will resist any attempt by external forces to break up Nigeria. Nobody can displace the Fulanis from this country,” Gumi declared.

He stressed that Nigeria’s problems must be resolved internally through dialogue, justice, and mutual understanding, rather than foreign manipulation or imposed solutions.

Sheikh Gumi noted that the Fulani, like other ethnic groups, are an integral part of Nigeria’s history and identity, warning that portraying any group as outsiders or enemies only fuels division and instability.

He further cautioned foreign leaders against policies or rhetoric that could inflame tensions in Africa, arguing that such actions often worsen insecurity rather than resolve it.

The cleric called on Nigerian leaders to focus on inclusive governance, fairness, and national cohesion, stressing that unity remains the country’s strongest defence against both internal and external threats.

His comments come amid ongoing debates around insecurity, ethnic tensions, and the role of international actors in addressing conflicts across Nigeria and the wider African continent.
