Afrobeats singer Simi has spoken publicly about the health challenges she faced while working on her latest single, Where You Dey, featuring fellow Nigerian artist Chike. The singer shared her experience in a detailed post on her X account, explaining why the song’s release was delayed despite her excitement about the project.
Simi disclosed that she had initially planned to release the song last year but was unable to do so due to health-related issues. According to her, the period during which the song was being produced was both physically demanding and emotionally exhausting.
She explained that when she first shared a snippet of the song, she was filled with excitement and optimism. However, completing the project within her planned timeline became difficult as her health deteriorated and the entire process began to feel overwhelming.
Simi described the period as one in which everything felt like a blur. She said her body did not cooperate with her creative intentions, making it challenging to meet deadlines or sustain the energy required to finish the song.
The singer revealed that she was dealing with sickness, weakness, nausea, and extreme fatigue while pushing through the recording process. Despite these challenges, she continued to work on the song, even when her physical condition made it uncomfortable to do so.
She noted that during the recording of the snippet video that was shared with fans, she was already unwell. According to Simi, she was not feeling her best at the time and was simply doing everything she could to keep going.
Simi’s comments shed light on the unseen struggles artists sometimes face behind the scenes, even when the final product appears polished and effortless to the public. She acknowledged that the creative journey for Where You Dey was far more difficult than fans may have realized.
In her message, Simi also praised Chike for his professionalism and dedication to the collaboration. She said she had always admired his voice and was confident that he was the right person to feature on the song.
According to Simi, Chike responded quickly when she reached out to him for a verse. She said he was enthusiastic about the project and made himself available as soon as he returned to town.
Simi disclosed that Chike came to her studio the day after he arrived, showing a level of commitment that impressed her greatly. She expressed deep respect for him and appreciation for his work ethic.
She also revealed that Chike was unaware of her health condition at the time of the recording. Looking back at the studio video later, Simi said she was surprised by how she managed to summon the strength to complete the session despite feeling unwell.
Beyond the recording stage, Simi said she faced additional challenges during the post-production process. She explained that mixing the song was particularly difficult and became another hurdle during an already stressful period.
Eventually, she decided to take on mastering the track herself, even though it is a process she does not enjoy. Simi admitted she was unsure why she made that decision, given how draining the process was for her at the time.
The singer also spoke about her disappointment at not being able to release the song as planned. She said missing her intended release window and being unable to promote the track properly were frustrating for her.
Simi explained that many fans had already fallen in love with the song and were eagerly asking for its release. However, she lacked the energy to create promotional content or give the song the level of attention she felt it deserved.
Despite her disappointment, Simi encouraged fans to receive the song with understanding. She described Where You Dey as a project created with a great deal of love, perseverance, and resilience.
Her openness has drawn praise from fans who commended her honesty and vulnerability. The singer’s reflections highlight the physical and emotional demands of the creative process and the determination required to see a project through under difficult circumstances.
