The Director General of the Bayelsa State Centre for Youth Development, Comrade Robert Igali, has congratulated Governor Douye Diri on his sixth anniversary in office, commending the administration’s record in infrastructure development, power generation, education, health and youth-focused initiatives.

In a statement issued to mark the milestone, Mr Igali described the past six years as a period of steady progress driven by the government’s Prosperity Agenda. He said the policy framework, later rebranded as the Assured Prosperity Agenda, has translated into tangible projects and reforms across the state.

According to him, when Governor Diri assumed office six years ago, the Prosperity Agenda was introduced as a deliberate and inclusive roadmap for development. He stated that the administration has since turned its vision into visible outcomes that have strengthened institutions and improved public confidence.

Mr Igali highlighted major road projects cutting across the three senatorial districts as key achievements. He identified the Nembe–Brass Road, the Yenagoa–Oporoma Road and the Sagbama–Ekeremor Road as transformative infrastructure initiatives.

He noted that the roads are gradually connecting communities that were previously difficult to access. The projects, he said, are expected to improve commerce, ease transportation and enhance economic integration within the state.

The DG also referenced the Polaku–Sabagreia Bridge and the Agbura–Oxbow Lake Road as significant additions to the state’s infrastructure. According to him, these projects have improved connectivity within Yenagoa and neighbouring communities.

He stated that improved road access is reducing travel time and opening up areas for tourism and investment. The infrastructure drive, he added, demonstrates the administration’s commitment to long-term development.

Mr Igali further pointed to the ongoing construction of a 30,000-capacity Olympic-standard stadium in Yenagoa. He described the project as a major step in promoting youth development and sports excellence in the state.

The stadium, he said, reflects the government’s intention to provide modern facilities that can nurture talent and host large-scale sporting events. He added that investment in sports infrastructure is part of a broader strategy to engage young people productively.

In the power sector, Mr Igali cited the near completion of a 60-megawatt gas turbine power project. He described the initiative as a strategic intervention aimed at strengthening electricity supply and stimulating economic growth.

He said the power project is expected to support industrial expansion and attract investors to Bayelsa. Improved electricity generation, he added, would also benefit businesses and households.

In education, he highlighted the recruitment of qualified teachers and the establishment of technical schools. Continued investment in tertiary institutions was also mentioned as part of efforts to improve learning standards.

Mr Igali said these initiatives are intended to build human capital and equip young people with practical skills. He noted that education remains central to achieving sustainable development in the state.

On healthcare, he referenced infrastructural expansion at the Medical University and upgrades at facilities such as the Cottage Hospital in Tein Biseni. He said these improvements are designed to enhance access to quality medical services.

Strengthening healthcare delivery, according to him, is critical to improving the well-being of residents. He added that the administration has made deliberate efforts to upgrade health infrastructure.

The DG also commended the governor’s approval of a monthly N200 million agricultural support grant. He described the measure as a step toward empowering farmers and improving food security.

He said the initiative is aimed at boosting agricultural productivity and ensuring that rural communities benefit from economic growth. Supporting farmers, he added, would help diversify the state’s economy.

Mr Igali further noted what he described as improved security and stability in Bayelsa. He attributed the development to inclusive governance and collaboration with security agencies.

He said sustained engagement with stakeholders has contributed to a peaceful environment conducive to business and community life. Stability, he noted, is essential for sustained development.

The timely payment of salaries and gratuities was also cited as a significant achievement. Mr Igali said this has restored financial stability to many families and strengthened trust in government.

As head of the Bayelsa State Centre for Youth Development, he acknowledged the administration’s efforts in youth empowerment and employment creation. He said consistent attention to youth-focused programmes has reinforced confidence among young people.

He commended Governor Diri’s leadership style, describing it as calm and unifying. According to him, the administration has fostered cooperation across political and socio-cultural divides.

Mr Igali called on residents to continue supporting the government’s vision. He stressed that sustained progress requires collective commitment and shared responsibility.

The sixth anniversary of the Diri administration marks a significant milestone in Bayelsa’s political history. Supporters of the government say ongoing infrastructure projects, reforms and social investments reflect its determination to advance the state’s development agenda.
