The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that he will support only candidates loyal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the forthcoming FCT council elections.
Wike said the elections would not be treated as ordinary local polls but as a political test of support for the administration, stressing that individuals seeking his backing must openly align with the President’s agenda and policies.
According to him, the development projects and reforms currently ongoing in Abuja are tied to the Renewed Hope programme, and electing opposing political actors would undermine coordination between the FCT Administration and elected council officials.
He maintained that residents should vote for candidates who will cooperate with the federal government to accelerate infrastructure, sanitation, transportation, and security improvements across the capital city.
The minister also warned that political opportunism would not be tolerated, insisting loyalty and performance commitment would determine endorsements rather than party sentiment alone.
