President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has told Kayode Egbetokun Disu that his appointment as Acting Inspector-General of Police was made to ensure fair and firm leadership of the Nigeria Police Force, assuring him of full support to succeed in the role.

The President stated that the decision was taken in the interest of national security and stability, emphasizing the need for strong and impartial leadership at the helm of the police. He charged Disu to work toward restoring peace and strengthening security across the country.

Tinubu made the remarks while addressing the newly appointed acting IGP, stressing that the position carries enormous responsibility at a time when Nigeria is grappling with complex security challenges. He said the country requires a police force that is professional, disciplined, and responsive to the needs of citizens.

According to the President, Disu’s appointment reflects confidence in his capacity to lead the force effectively. He urged him to carry out his duties with fairness, courage, and a firm commitment to the rule of law.

Tinubu assured the acting IGP that the federal government would provide the necessary backing to enable him to succeed. He said the administration remains committed to equipping and reforming the police to better address emerging security threats.

The President emphasized that security remains a top priority of his administration. He noted that ensuring the safety of lives and property is fundamental to economic growth and national development.

Tinubu further tasked Disu with strengthening internal discipline within the police force. He said restoring public trust in law enforcement requires professionalism, accountability, and adherence to ethical standards.

The acting IGP was also charged with enhancing collaboration between the police and other security agencies. The President highlighted the importance of intelligence sharing and coordinated operations in tackling terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other crimes.

Tinubu stressed the need for community-based policing initiatives that would foster closer ties between officers and the communities they serve. He said improved community engagement would enhance intelligence gathering and crime prevention efforts.

The President’s remarks come ahead of a scheduled meeting of the Police Council next week, where Disu’s appointment is expected to be ratified. The Council, which has constitutional authority over such appointments, will deliberate on the nomination.

Sources indicated that the meeting will bring together key stakeholders, including state governors and senior government officials, to formally consider and approve the appointment.
Observers note that the appointment comes at a critical time, as the country continues to face security challenges in several regions.

The administration has pledged to adopt comprehensive measures aimed at improving safety nationwide.
Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting security institutions through reforms and investments. He said the police must be adequately trained and equipped to respond effectively to modern security threats.

He also underscored the importance of fairness in the discharge of duties, urging the acting IGP to ensure that policing is carried out without bias or undue influence. According to him, equal treatment under the law is essential for maintaining public confidence.

In response, Disu expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and pledged to serve with dedication and integrity. He assured the President that he would work tirelessly to improve operational efficiency and boost morale within the force.

The acting IGP said his leadership would prioritize professionalism, accountability, and collaboration. He acknowledged the challenges ahead but expressed confidence that with government support, the police would rise to the occasion.

The forthcoming Police Council meeting is expected to formally confirm his appointment, paving the way for him to fully assume the role.

As Nigeria continues to address security concerns nationwide, the administration’s emphasis on fair and firm leadership within the police signals its intention to strengthen law enforcement and restore public confidence in the system.
