The Kano State House of Assembly has passed a motion of urgent public importance calling on the Kano State Government to intervene over a proposed United States congressional bill that mentions the leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, among individuals who could face possible sanctions. The lawmakers expressed concern over the gravity of the proposed sanctions, which reportedly include visa restrictions and asset freezes. They urged Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to deploy necessary diplomatic and bilateral channels to address the situation and seek a resolution.
The motion was moved during Tuesday’s plenary by the member representing Kiru constituency, Hon. Usman Tasiu. He described Senator Kwankwaso as a dedicated public servant whose leadership has positively impacted the lives of Kano residents.
Tasiu noted that Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State, has a record of promoting peace, supporting educational advancement, and driving infrastructural development across the state. He emphasized that these efforts benefited both Christian and Muslim communities.
The plenary session was presided over by Speaker Jibril Ismail Falgore. Lawmakers unanimously adopted the motion, highlighting the need for swift government action to protect the image and interests of the state.
The Assembly’s resolution reflects growing concern within the state legislature over the potential diplomatic and political implications of the proposed U.S. congressional bill.
