Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has called on politicians across Nigeria to avoid bitterness and division, urging them instead to embrace unity in order to advance national development. He made the appeal during events in Delta State where political leaders gathered to pay tribute to former Delta North Senator Peter Nwaoboshi and former Deputy Governor Benjamin Elue.
The governor stressed that political disagreements should not degenerate into personal animosity, noting that cooperation among leaders is essential for progress. He said Nigeria’s growth depends largely on the ability of its political class to work together despite party differences.
Oborevwori spoke as prominent figures in Delta State and beyond bid farewell to Nwaoboshi, describing him as a dedicated public servant who made significant contributions to the state and the nation. The event drew a large number of political stakeholders, including former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, former Governor James Ibori, Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly Emomotimi Guwor, and Senator Ned Nwoko, among others.
The governor noted that the late Nwaoboshi played an important role in the political development of Delta State. He said the former senator was known for his commitment to his constituents and his active participation in legislative matters at the national level.
Oborevwori emphasized that leaders must focus on service rather than personal rivalries. He urged politicians to see elections as contests of ideas rather than battles that create long-term divisions. According to him, bitterness among political actors slows down governance and hinders development.
