The Sagbama Local Government Area Youth Coalition in Bayelsa State has declared support for Governor Douye Diri, his deputy Peretubo Akpe, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections. The endorsement was announced on Friday, March 20, 2026, during the coalition’s inaugural meeting in Yenagoa.
Members of the group passed a vote of confidence on the Bayelsa State leadership, citing what they described as measurable progress under Governor Diri’s administration. They pointed to ongoing development initiatives tied to the Renewed Prosperity Agenda as evidence of improved governance in the state.
The coalition highlighted human empowerment programmes and wealth-creation efforts as key achievements. According to the group, these initiatives have had direct impact on residents, particularly young people, across Sagbama Local Government Area.
In a communique issued after the meeting, the coalition pledged to mobilise grassroots support in all communities within the local government. The group said its structure would be deployed to strengthen backing for the All Progressives Congress and its candidates in future elections.
Chief Umbo Okobokpofa, who attended as Special Guest of Honour and Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors in Sagbama LGA, commended the unity among coalition members. He said their commitment reflects readiness to contribute to the success of President Tinubu’s second-term bid.
Okobokpofa assured the coalition of continued collaboration, noting that coordinated efforts would be essential in achieving electoral victory in 2027. He described the gathering as a significant step toward consolidating political support at the grassroots level.
The Director General of the coalition, Dr. Timipre Okumbiri, reaffirmed the group’s loyalty to Governor Diri, his deputy, and the APC-led administration. He stated that the coalition would intensify efforts to spread the Renewed Hope message throughout Sagbama.
Okumbiri maintained that Sagbama remains aligned with the APC, adding that the coalition’s activities would focus on engaging local communities and encouraging wider participation in the party’s programmes. He said the group is determined to play a central role in future political developments.
Secretary General Prince Perewari Koroye called for stronger collaboration among political and socio-cultural organisations in the area. He urged youth and women groups to work together with the coalition to advance shared political objectives.
Koroye emphasized that unity among stakeholders would be critical in achieving long-term political goals. He noted that inclusive participation would strengthen the coalition’s outreach and influence.
Director of Mobilisation Dr. Victor Omgbou described the APC as the dominant political force in the area. He said the coalition would continue to expand its grassroots network to consolidate support.
Omgbou also dismissed claims suggesting that the Ijaw people were planning to form a separate political party. He described such reports as false and urged residents to disregard them.
The event featured the inauguration of the coalition’s executive members, drawn from across the 14 wards of Sagbama Local Government Area. The composition, according to organisers, reflects broad representation aimed at strengthening political mobilisation.
Dr. Timipre Okumbiri was inaugurated as Director General, with Peter Okogba serving as Deputy Director. Prince Perewari Koroye took the role of Secretary General, while Nicholas Author was named Assistant Secretary.
Other key appointments include Dr. Victor Omgbou as Director of Mobilisation and Barrister Philip Omoro as Legal Adviser. Dr. Seperegha Godgift was named Treasurer, with Lovely Agwor as Financial Secretary and Emmanuel Igwoku as Organizing Secretary.
Additional roles were assigned to Ebi Amula as Publicity Secretary, Harris Ezuwe as Auditor, and Ayiso Oyaderekumor as Woman Leader. Ella Adela was appointed Deputy Woman Leader, while Justice O. Konakiri and Oyieinmi Dauweimo were named Youth Leader and Deputy Youth Leader respectively.
The coalition also announced ward coordinators for all 14 wards in Sagbama, further extending its grassroots presence. Organisers said this structure would enhance coordination and ensure effective communication across communities.
The group concluded that its leadership framework and membership base position it as a significant political force in the area. It expressed confidence in its ability to influence the political direction of Sagbama and contribute to broader electoral outcomes as preparations for 2027 continue.
