23,000 applicants jostle for 1,000 jobs in Bayelsa

More than 23,000 applicants have applied for the 1,000 jobs recently promised by the Bayelsa State Governor, Mr Seriake Dickson.
The Commissioner III in the state Civil Service Commission, Chief Kunle Igoni-Claudius, revealed this in Yenagoa on Monday during the unveiling of the CSC website by the Deputy Governor of the state, Rear Admiral John Jonah (retd.).
Dickson had said that the graduates would write an entrance examination to qualify for employment into the public service.
Igoni-Claudius, while giving the technical report on the recruitment exercise, said the commission commenced the process on June 19, 2018, by inviting qualified Bayelsans to apply.
He said that at the end of the issuance of application forms, more than 23,000 applications were issued and more than 12,000 returned their duly completed forms.
He said the website being launched on Monday had such information as the list of all qualified (cleared) and unqualified (uncleared) candidates published according to their local government areas.
Igoni-Claudius said the criteria used for the screening were a birth certificate or age declaration (applicant not less than 18 years or more than 50 years); educational qualifications; NYSC discharge or exemption certificate; and government identification letter, among others.
He said at the end of the screening, the total number of the cleared candidates from the councils were Brass, 1,187; Ekeremor, 1,500; Kolokuma/Opokuma, 1,230; Nembe, 993; Ogbia, 1,417; Sagbama, 2,171; Southern Ijaw, 2,075; and Yenagoa, 1,817.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr Daniel Iworiso-Markson, noted, “The credibility of the government has to be intact. As much as possible, we believe that the website being launched will provide access to everybody to go there to get information and also take advantage of the platform.”
