No fewer than 70 persons were on Saturday apprehended in different parts of Akure, the Ondo State capital, for violating environmental sanitation law.

According to the Commissioner for Environment, Sunday Akinwalere, and the Acting General Manager, Ondo State Waste Management Authority (ODSWMA), Kunle Olajumbu, the violators of the monthly exercise will be made to face the full wrath of the law.

The duo, who disclosed this shortly after monitoring the environmental sanitation excise for October within the Akure metropolis, urged residents of the state to make cleanliness a daily affair to ward off any form of diseases.

Olajumbu characterized the sanitation exercise as successful, with a high level of compliance, while also urging all citizens, especially market vendors and other business owners, to continue working with the government to guarantee a safe and clean environment for everyone to live in.

While charging people to always deposit their trash in trash cans for convenient removal by trash collectors, the acting general manager also warned against disposing of trash in places that are not authorized, claiming that doing so is unclean.

The acting General Manager pledged to boost up efforts and actions, especially in the area of enforcement, to ensure that the public is aware of all laws and norms governing environmental cleanliness in the state
