Detectives in Ondo apprehend alleged police officer killers and monarch aides 9 months after

Detectives have apprehended the suspected killers of a police officer and two aides to Ondo State’s traditional ruler, the Olu of Igbokoda, Oba Odidiomo Afolabi, Track News reports

The suspects, Mayowa Iledun and Akinwumi Ebifemi (a.k.a Espanyol), allegedly murdered the police officer in November and the two monarch’s aides, Ephraim Abayomi and Agbadeloye Idowu, in December. They also attempted to assassinate the traditional ruler.

According to a reliable police source in Akure, the monarch and the two victims were shot at by the two suspects at Okoga in the state’s Igbokoda area.

Oba Odidiomo and his aides were shot at while visiting Okoga with his vigilante group to remove speed breakers used on the road by the suspects and their gang members to dispossess travellers and other road users of their belongings.

“While they were there, the duo of Mayowa Iledun and Akinwumi Ebifemi (a.k.a Espanyol), along with others who are still at large, emerged and began shooting sporadically, eventually killing Ephraim Abayomi and Agbadeloye Idowu at the scene.”

According to Track News, the suspects were also involved in several other similar cases in the community.

The state police image maker, Funmi Odunlami, confirmed the incident, saying the two suspects and eight others were involved in the attempted murder of the monarch, as well as the killing of his aides and a policeman.

“During an investigation, it was discovered that the two suspects were involved in several cases involving similar offences in which one Iwatan Bamidele and seven others had previously been arrested and charged to court for murder and conspiracy, which includes the killing of a Policeman on November 18, 2021,” Odunlami said.
