Senator Walid Jibrin, chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT), has revealed that the party is working to address the perceived imbalance caused by the election of Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential candidate in 2023.
Jibrin argued on Sunday that the PDP’s national chairman and presidential candidate hailing from the same region is a problem that must be addressed.

He did, however, add that a committee is already working on it and that action will be taken once the committee submits its report next week.

According to Track News, he stated his position while speaking on Politics, amid calls for the removal of PDP National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu.

As things currently stand, the PDP Bot Chairman, National Chairman, and presidential candidate are all from the north, which has alarmed some stakeholders within the party.

Speaking about the situation, Jibrin stated that the PDP national caucus, Board of Trustees, and national executive committee are all awaiting the recommendation of the committee formed to investigate the matter before holding their own meeting to make decisions.

Jibrin has stated that if necessary, he will resign from his own position to ensure the party’s peace.

“To tell the truth, it will not be fair for the president of Nigeria, the chairman of the party, and the chairman of the BoT to be from the north,” he said.

“We should have the report by next week.” And if we discover that someone is incorrect about what occurred, we will come forward openly to inform the party. Whatever we can do in the best interests of the party to keep it
