THE Osun State government issued a warning yesterday to those who are drumming up violence and bloodshed in the state to stop or face the state’s wrath.

The warning was issued by the state government following its weekly Executive Council meeting.

This follows the recent assassination of APC chieftains in the state, as well as several violent attacks on party members and government officials, including the governor’s wife, Mrs Kafayat Oyetola.

“The government is very concerned about the spate of politically motivated assassinations in Osun, a state that has enjoyed peace and tranquillity in the last four years and has earned its rating as the nation’s safest place,” said Funke Egbemode in a statement.

“Unfortunately, since the announcement of the governorship election results, innocent and peace-loving people have begun to live in fear as a result of a revival of the violent culture that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is known for.”

“Government officials and members of the ruling All Progressives Congress have been specifically targeted in all of these attacks.” More shocking was the ambush and violent attack on the First Lady in Ede, Mr Ademola Adeleke’s hometown, which injured several people in her convoy. There is no evidence that the attack was not directed at Governor Adegboyega Oyetola.

“We have intelligence reports that more such attacks are being planned and targeted at government officials and ruling party chieftains in order to further polarize the state’s polity and, as a result, disrupt the state’s peace.”

“The state is calling on both local and national security agencies, particularly the Inspector-General of Police, to step up and ensure the safety of Osun citizens, as well as to protect government officials from the PDP and its terror allies.”
