REVEALED: Why Kwankwaso And Obi’s Merger Failed – NNPP
Mohammed O. Taoheed reports,
Prof Rufai Alkali, the National Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has revealed why the merger between their presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and his Labour Party (LP) counterpart, Peter Obi, failed.
Alkali spoke to Track News Nigeria on Sunday at the party Secretariat in Abuja, saying that the alliance failed become futile because the LP camp persisted that NNPP concedes the presidency to them.
According to Prof. Alkali: “A technical committee was set up to work out the alliance.
“But for the eight hours that they met, the LP camp said just one thing; that Kwankwaso should concede the presidency to Obi, that it was the time of the South East to become the president.”
He stated that the LP camp confirmed that Kwankwaso was a good candidate but it was time for Southeast to take over power.
The NNPP chairman also alleged that Obi’s camp leaked the deliberations on social media while the alliance negotiations were ongoing, which led to the collapse of the alliance talks.
He noted that when there was a stalemate during the negotiation, the LP camp disclosed to the media that there was a breakdown in the talks.
