PDP to Babayemi: We’re not going to accept criminal activity
Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports
The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reiterated that it will not accept any deals that involve illicit political settlements or fence-mending.
The PDP responded to a recent interview Dotun Babayemi gave after being expelled by claiming that it is founded on democratic principles, laws, and ethics.
Akindele Adekunle, the chairman of the Osun PDP Caretaker Transition Committee, said in a statement released on Sunday in Osogbo that the party cannot for the emotional antics of political nomads, such as the expelled former member, to have an impact on its operations.
The PDP also slammed the purported unilateral requests that Babayemi alluded to in his interview as being absurd and potentially harmful to the party’s performance in the 2018 general elections.
The statement states that Babayemi’s ability to go to the level of anticipating the proceeds of a democratic activity in which he never participated “shows his proclivity for cheap roses in the thorny democratic field.”
To ask the PDP to hand over the tickets of the party’s duly elected candidates to some unidentified people in violation of the law and the electoral act without a good reason was strange to the PDP as a democratic organization in addition to being akin to destabilizing the party prior to the upcoming elections.
Given his contentious political experience, Prince Babayemi may not be comfortable with peace and democratic culture, but expecting the PDP to clumsily err on the side of illegality to satisfy his ego or political greed is a display of flamboyant idiocy.
The party emphasized that Babayemi was officially expelled from the PDP in Osun State by the party’s ward executives in Otun Balogun ward 2, Ayedaade Local Government, who were elected officials with the authority to carry out statutory tasks, including preserving party discipline.
Dotun Babayemi was ejected from the Osun PDP on Friday by Ayedaade Local Government representatives in Otun Balogun Ward 2 of Osun State. He was a governor contender.
The party adopted this measure in response to allegations of anti-party activities made against Babayemi.
But Babayemi also believed that the party’s decision to kick him out was a ruse.
The PDP leader further referred to those involved in the incident as fools who were ignorant of the party’s rules.
