After the elections, Ayu should resign – exNASS members
Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports
Former South-West geographical zone members of the National Assembly have come out in support of Senator Iyorchia Ayu, the embattled national chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, and asked that he stay in position until after the 2023 general elections.
In a statement released on Sunday, Yemi Arokodare, the interim coordinator of the Peoples Democratic Party South-West Forum of Former Parliamentarians, asked PDP members throughout the zone to put aside personal interests and strive for the party’s electoral triumph.
We Must Be United to Win the 2023 General Election – PDP South West Parliamentarians Forum Counsels…’ was the title of the statement.
wants Ayu to remain till after the elections.
In addition to praising Governor Seyi Makinde for organizing the meeting, the forum complimented Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s presidential candidate, for his recent meeting with party stakeholders in Ibadan, Oyo State, as part of the continuing nationwide consultations leading up to the elections.
“We desire to appeal to all the South-West leaders to wait a bit on their suggestion that the PDP National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, should step down as part of efforts to address the continuing crisis in the party,” the statement’s opening line stated.
The ex-lawmakers claim that if the PDP’s current problem is allowed to continue, it might lead to even more imbalance and instability within the party.
The PDP leaders and stakeholders at the meeting expressed concerns about the need to ensure fairness and equity in the party structure, and while acknowledging those concerns, the forum stated that it recognized “the merit for inclusiveness of South-West within the party but we plead that this should come after the election.”
