Six Fake Doctors Apprehended by a Cross River task squad
Ibekimi Oriamaja
The Cross River State Task Force on Quackery and Related Violations in Healthcare Delivery System has detained six bogus doctors and other individuals in connection with 11 bogus surgery operations in the state, while 13 health institutions have been closed.
Dr. David Ushie, Chairman of the Task Force, revealed this yesterday during a media event, saying the task force, which was established in 2020, has responded to 22 reports, detained seven violators, and closed down 13 healthcare facilities for various regulatory violations.
Ushie, who is also the state governor’s Special Adviser on Health, stated that the tragic incidence occurred at Aladim, Ogoja Local Council.
According to him, on September 8, 2022, the Task Force acting on a tip about the actions of some surgeons made appropriate contacts with relevant government agencies and detained several phony doctors.
Ushie went on to say that the perpetrators act as a syndicate to extort money from unsuspecting members of the public.
He stated that the Task Force “does not actively prosecute or adjudicate on concerns involving non-members, but will refer individuals who are not medical physicians to the police, while members are dealt with through internal disciplinary processes.”
