Nigerian judiciary not corrupt – NBA President, Yakubu Maikyau
By Adeleye Kunle
Yakubu Maikyau (SAN), the President of Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), has distanced the Nigerian judiciary from any perception of corruption.
Speaking at the weekend in Abuja at the reception in his honour by the Nigeria Law School class of 1990, the NBA President enjoined lawyers to disabuse any negative perception to enable the country and the world to get the true situation of the Nigerian judiciary.
Maikyau noted that lawyers have an important role in building a society where justice reigns in order to enjoy their professional calling.
He explained, “Let us speak up so the country and beyond would know that we are not a people called to this profession that can be compromised. I will tell you one example, my Lord, Justice Amina Augie doesn’t have a personal car; she has never bought a car for herself, that I know.”
Maikyau also explained that Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, who was also the special guest of honour, is a man whose background has no trace of corruption.
The CJN Ariwoola, while speaking during the ceremony, commended the election that produced Maikyau as NBA President and charged him to work hard to produce many Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) and judges during his tenure
