Zulum orders review of 624 Borno teachers wrongly labelled ghost workers
By Adeleye Kunle
Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum has ordered a review of Primary School Teachers Verification Exercise conducted in December 2020. The exercise was conducted by a committee chaired by Shettima Kullima, former Chairman, Borno State Universal Basic Education Board. Of 26,450 teachers evaluated across the 27 local government areas of the state, 7,794 were alleged to be ghost workers.
But the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in Borno complained that about 624 teachers were wrongly included in the list.
In response, Gov. Zulum had set up a review committee which he inaugurated on Friday in Maiduguri, capital of the state. The review team will take another look at the reports submitted on teachers’ verification and the biometric data capture of local government staff and local education authorities.
The committee has Secretary to the State Government, Usman Shuwa as chairman with Commissioner for Local Government and Emirate Affairs, Sugun Mele as vice chairman. Other members include representatives of the NUT, National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), and government officials relevant to the committee’s terms of reference
