Enugu Govt will begin palliative measures on two federal highways between 9th Mile and Opi Junction.

Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s administration has decided to carry out repairs on the 9th Mile-Opi Nsukka Federal Highways.

The state government stated that it was taking the action while waiting for the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing to intervene.

According to a statement issued by the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Greg Nnaji, “the State Executive Council in its last meeting, conscious of the difficulties arising from the road situation, established a Technical Team to visit the axis with a view to identifying the critical failed sections and reporting findings for some palliative measures aimed at immediate safe passage, particularly for petroleum products laden and articulated vehicles, which if not v

Engr. Nnaji stated that the Enugu State Government is very concerned about the deplorable state of the two major highways, and that the State Executive Council has directed that the state government will begin palliative measures “to ensure removal of all trucks and other vehicles stuck on the road, carry out remedial works where possible to allow for immediate passage of commuters and goods while awaiting the intervention of the Federal Government.”

As a result, the state government sincerely requested that the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing expedite maintenance work on the two major highways “to safeguard the lives of citizens and protect their livelihood in these difficult economic times.”

The Commissioner disclosed that the federal interstate highways were awarded to RCC and ARAB Contractors for total reconstruction, but that work on the roads has not progressed as expected.
