2023: Obi will demolish political structures that foster corruption and poverty
The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has vowed to demolish the country’s current political structure, which has encouraged corruption and spread poverty among Nigerians.
The pledge was made by the former Anambra State Governor during a meeting with members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, on Monday in Uyo, the state capital.
Obi said the existing structure in the country is that of criminality and that which has produced 133 million people living in poverty, adding that he would destroy the structure if elected as President.
However, the LP flagbearer refuted claims that he lacks the political structure to win the presidential election, emphasizing that his supporters are all he needs to become President.
“What they have today is the structure we want to destroy,” he explained. It is the criminal organization. It is the system that has resulted in 133 million people living in poverty.
“It is the structure that has resulted in 20 million out-of-school children. Nigeria has surpassed India in infant mortality as a result of the structure. We intend to demolish the structure that will destroy Nigeria.”
Obi also stated that securing a united Nigeria, lifting people out of poverty, and transforming Nigeria into a productive rather than consuming nation would be his top priorities.
He added that if elected president in 2023, he would work to bring the Ibaka Deep Seaport in Akwa Ibom to fruition.
