‘Insiders’ Reveal Why Osinbajo Paid Tinubu a Visit

According to APC sources, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo paid a visit to the party’s presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in Abuja yesterday.
On Wednesday, Osinbajo met with Tinubu and his running mate, Kashim Shettima, according to Naija News.

Tinubu defeated Osinbajo and other APC presidential candidates in the party’s primaries months ago. Since then, he has not participated in any of the ruling party’s campaigns.
Despite the fact that the presidency had made it clear that Osinbajo was acting on President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive that he and the Secretary to the Government, Boss Mustapha, refrain from campaigning in order to focus on governance.
Despite speculation that Osinbajo and Tinubu had a falling out over the outcome of the party’s presidential primaries, the VP paid a courtesy visit to the former Lagos State Governor yesterday, just weeks before the 2023 general elections.
In response to speculation, APC sources insisted that Osinbajo’s visit to Tinubu was not political, but rather friendly.
Expectations in some quarters may suggest otherwise, according to APC officials who reportedly witnessed the meeting, but it was a courtesy call based on the duo’s longstanding relationship.
They noted that Osinbajo’s latest visit to Tinubu was in response to Tinubu’s earlier visit to the vice president after the presidential primaries earlier in June, citing previous meetings between the two.
Track News recalls Tinubu visiting Osinbajo at his Aguda House residence in the Presidential Villa earlier this year, just weeks after the APC primary election.
“The fact that both leaders contested against each other at the primaries does not make them enemies because I know the vice-president is a ‘Owolabi’.
“He has high regard for BAT, who I also know to be very close to the vice president, and this he has demonstrated at different times.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Osinbajo’s visit to Tinubu was merely in the spirit of the Christmas season.
“Moreover, such a visit is best described as reciprocal after Tinubu paid the vice president a similar visit in the past,” an APC source who spoke on the condition of anonymity said.
Another source, who also requested anonymity, said it was only customary for leaders to exchange visits during the Christmas season.
