Zamfara: PDP federal lawmaker claims that APC thugs harassed and intimidated him

Suleiman Abubakar Gummi, a member of the Gummi/Bukkuyum Federal Constituency in Zamfara State, has claimed that political thugs allegedly sponsored by APC heavyweights in the state have harassed and intimidated him.
Gummi told reporters in Gusau, the state capital, that an APC chieftain in Gummi town, Maikwarya Gummi, has been sponsoring thugs to harass and intimidate him.
The federal lawmaker claimed that thugs on Maikwarya’s orders destroyed his campaign office, billboards, and posters on numerous occasions.
Gummi recalled that “political thugs once attempted to burn down the office he built for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gummi town.”
“They attempted to set fire to the office several times but were stopped by security guards and well-wishers in town.”
“Maikwarya, an APC stalwart, was not happy with my growing popularity in the zone, which is why he has been attacking me by using political thugs to humiliate and intimidate me.”
He also alluded to Maikwarya telling his supporters that even if they killed a PDP member, nothing would happen.
The federal lawmaker praised local security personnel for their efforts to keep the peace and order.
Meanwhile, Track News’ attempts to reach Maikwarya Gummi were futile, as he was unable to respond to the federal lawmaker’s allegations against him.
When contacted, the Chairman of the Zamfara State Anti-Triggery Committee, Bello Mohammed Bakyasuwa, denied knowing anything about the alleged harassment and intimidation of the federal lawmaker.
He assured that he would investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to justice.
He insisted that his committee would work according to its plan to ensure the peaceful conduct of the state’s upcoming general elections.
He warned that his committee would not tolerate any acts of thuggery that could destabilize the state’s existing peace.
