Armed Forces Remembrance Day: Cater for families of fallen heroes – Abiodun tells Nigerians

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has told Nigerians to take good care of the families of fallen heroes, asking them to always show love and appreciation to those “who laid down their lives for the country.”Abiodun made the call on Sunday during the celebration of this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day, held at the Arcade ground, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta. The governor, alongside heads of security agencies in the state, traditional rulers and other top government functionaries, laid wreaths in honour of the fallen heroes.Addressing newsmen, Abiodun charged Nigerians to inculcate a daily habit of showing love and appreciation to families of the fallen heroes, saying, “without them the country would not have enjoyed peace, order and socio-economic development.”According to him, Nigerians must continue to remember the widows, the widowers and the orphans left behind by the late Nigerian heroes, asking that their families be fended for.“Yes, it’s important to remember them today as set aside, but more importantly, we must remember them every day. We should not just come here today, walk away and then come back next year.“But we must remember that without these people, we may not have had the peace, love, order and security that we need, and are directly responsible for our socio-economic development and allow us to go about seeking for a means of livelihood.“So, everyday, let’s display an act of love and appreciation to their families. Let us in one way or the other, let us be grateful,” Abiodun said.Speaking further, Abiodun preached peaceful co-existence and tolerance as the 2023 general elections draw nearer. He warned that anybody, no matter how highly placed, would be dealt with if found culpable of any act of electoral violence. He stressed that the electorate must be allowed to perform their civic responsibilities in a peaceful atmosphere and accommodation
