Naira protesters burn Ogun INEC office
Youths who protested the Naira scarcity in Sagamu, Ogun State on Monday burnt the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) located within Sagamu Local Government Secretariat.
TrackNews reports that the protest had begun in front of the palace of the Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, with some youths barricading roads and setting bonfire.
In addition, the protesters burnt the Sagamu office of the Ibadan Electric Distribution (IBEDC) and three commercial banks.
In a statement by the police, security agents warned that it would not fold its arms and allow criminals to hide under any guise to unleash mayhem on residents.
“The CP (Frank Mba) further noted that intelligence at the disposal of the Command indicates that some criminal elements are planning to take advantage of the challenging economic situation to disrupt the peace being enjoyed in the State. We will not allow that,” the statement by the police spokesman in Ogun, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said.
