IYC task Ijaw Youths on Peaceful Conduct During Polls

…calls on security agencies and INEC to be professional and independent
Umbrella body of Ijaw Youths Worldwide, the Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) has challenged the Youths in the region to shun politicians desperately trying to recruit hired hands to subvert the nation’s nascent democracy with violence and criminal activities during the general election.
According to IYC, instead of allowing desperate politicians to engage them in electoral violence, Ijaw Youths should rather display non-violence posture, conduct themselves peacefully and vote for credible candidates that will creat job opportunities for them and attract development to the region.
The National Spokesman of the IYC, Comrade Ebilade Ekerefe in statement on Thursday emphasized that the only panacea to the rapid development in the region is when youths refuses to allow desperate politicians lure them into participating in electoral violence in a bid to subvert the will of the people when members of their families are living in luxury overseas.
He pointed out that they must’ve the watchful eyes and hold political actors accountable to the peace agreements signed and ensure that the choices of the people prevails in a rancor free atmosphere.
Comr. Ekerefe called on security agencies and the Independent Electoral Commission to carry out their duties inline with the constitution and the extant laws which establishes them to avoid the break down of law and order.
