Adeleke not defecting to any other party, big rumour, cheap lies – Osun PDP
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has denied any plans by the state governor, Ademola Adeleke to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This is as the Osun PDP also dismissed all the rumours being spread on social media as fallacious and cheap lies.
Unconfirmed reports on social media on Friday claimed Governor Ademola Adeleke had sent emissaries to the president-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The reports also had it that Governor Adeleke planned to defect to the APC in the coming days.
But the PDP in a statement by its Caretaker Chairman, Dr Akindele Adekunle on Friday stressed that the rumour is a failed distraction agenda.
While alleging that it emanated from the All Progressives Congress (APC), Akindele called on the voters in the state to troop out en masse on March 11 and vote for PDP candidates in the House of Assembly election.
Part of the statement reads, “Let me urge the public to discard the rumour of defection. There is no reason for it, especially given the impressive victory he led the PDP to just a few days ago at the Presidential and National Assembly elections in Osun State.
“Osun APC is badly decimated and is struggling to even find its feet. Governor Adeleke has within 100 days proved that good governance is possible, hence the massive goodwill the PDP currently enjoys across the state. So voters should ignore the lies from the pit of hell. Governor Adeleke remains a PDP leader and Governor”, the statement posited.
Akindele added that Governor Adeleke remained committed to the PDP.
Proof of his commitment he stated was evidently demonstrated in the overwhelming votes garnered by the party during the February 25, 2023, Presidential and National Assembly elections.
“The PDP will repeat the same feat on March 11th by clearing all the twenty-six assembly seats in the state,” he concluded.
Since the PDP cleared all three Senatorial and nine House of Representatives seats during the Presidential and National Assembly elections in the state, there has been apprehension as to the outcome of the March 11 House of Assembly election.
As it is concluded at the moment, the APC has 23 members while the PDP has three members in the 26 members House of Assembly.
There also have been speculations that the PDP may once again secure 100 percent victory at the House of Assembly poll thus breaking the electoral victory recorded in 2011 when the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) scored 100 percent in the presidential, National and State Assembly polls
