During an interview with Arise , the Nigerian businessman, medical practitioner, and activist, Mahdi Shehu, stated that the moment the INEC chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, declared Tinubu as the winner of the 2023 general election, four things came to his mind.
He revealed that he remembered the book of Chinua Achebe titled “Arrows of God,” where a woman was dancing and dancing, and the person watching could not see a drummer or a singer. Shehu stated that the old woman knows the drummer and pointed out that Mahmood equally knows his drummers.
According to him, “The moment, in fact, six hours into announcing the results, from Mahmood’s body language, I saw it coming, and the moment he declared Tinubu the winner, four things came into my mind.” Number one, I remembered Chinua Achebe’s words in his book, The Arrow of God: “If you see an old woman dancing in the middle of the bush, dancing and dancing endlessly, using all the styles and all the tricks, but you who are watching the old woman have not heard or seen any drummer, have not heard the music she’s dancing to, “
Achebe said if you don’t see the drummer, that old woman knows the drummer; if you don’t hear the music, that old woman hears the music; therefore, for Mahmood to unilaterally ignore all the clarion calls, ignore all the infractions, and ignore all the clear evidence of fraud, he was dancing to music and a drum.” “We know the drummers; we know the rhythm he’s dancing to, and time will tell who those drummers are.”
