A transparency organisation, Connected Development (CODE) has kicked against the Oro festival scheduled to hold same day with the governorship elections on Saturday, March 18, 2023.

It was gathered that the traditional ruler of the Ikate-Elegushi Kingdom in Lagos State, Saheed Ademola fixed the festival on election day.

He also warned residents of parts of the Eti-Osa Local Government Area to stay indoors.

Reacting on Thursday, Hamzat Lawal, the Chief Executive Officer of the group, said that the scheduled festival might be a strategy to disenfranchise voters.

The group decried the low turnout of voters during the February 25th general election, calling on the Lagos State government to put a stop to any activity that threatens the participation of the electorate during Saturday’s governorship election in Lagos State.

”Following the trends; Lagos State has declared the Oro festival when there’s an election. Typically there’s not supposed to be any activity during elections because of the curfew.

”We suspect that this might be a strategy to further disenfranchise voters and call on the Lagos State government and law enforcement agencies to address and put a stop to any activity that threatens the participation of the electorates in the and this elections.

”We also call on security agencies to also pay attention to identified volatile states and curb any stem of violence.” he told newsmen.
