Disappointment for Nigerian players as their clubs crash out of Europe
It was a disappointing week for Nigerian players in Europe with the elimination of their clubs from the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Europa Conference League.
No Nigerian player will be involved in the semi-finals of the three competitions.
In the Champions League, Victor Osimhen’s Napoli crashed out on Tuesday night following a 1-1 home draw against Serie A rivals, AC Milan.
AC Milan, who are the current Serie A champions, won the quarter-final tie 2-1 on aggregate.
It was a night to forget for Victor Boniface and his Union Saint Gilloise teammates in the UEFA Europa League as they were thrashed 4-1 at home by Bundesliga club, Bayer Leverkusen.
Union Saint Gilloise held the Germans to a 2-2 draw in the first leg last week, with Boniface scoring a brilliant goal.
Leverkusen however sent them packing from the competition 6-3 on aggregate.
In the Europa Conference League, there was no luck for Terem Moffi as his French Ligue 1 club, OGC Nice failed to make it to the last four.
Nice lost 2-1 on the night, to exit the competition 4-3 on aggregate.
Moffi won the Goal of the Week award last week after scoring a spectacular acrobatic goal in the first leg.
Gift Orban also suffered the same fate with KAA Gent thoroughly outclassed 4-1 by West Ham at the London Stadium
