Rotary Donates Maternal Kits To Pregnant Women
Poised to improve maternal and child health indices in the country, Rotary Club of Ogudu GRA, has donated maternal kits to pregnant women and nursing mothers at Ogudu Health Centre in Lagos.
President of the club, Tokunbo Opanubi, said the donation was part of the activities to commemorate the Rotary month of maternal and child health.
Opanubi said the club donated and distributed the maternity kits and other materials to support pregnant women, nursing mothers and their babies as well as health centres to reduce mortality rate in its host community.
Representative of the Healthcare Centre, Dr. Oguntoyinbo Kehinde, stated that the challenges faced by pregnant women were enormous following the economic situation of the country
She explained that some pregnant women find it difficult to attend antenatal care owing to cost of transportation and lack of finance for medical care.
Sequel to that, she said that some of them patronise traditional birth attendants as a result of poverty.
She, however, commended the Rotary Club’s initiative on maternal and childcare, noting that the kits distributed at the health centre were essential for pregnant women during labour.
Kehinde, however, appealed for more support for women in the form of providing means of transportation to the clinic during labour, funding their medical bills, drugs and examinations carried out.
Also, Chairman, Kosofe Local Council, Moyosore Ogunlewe, thanked the Rotary Club for supporting pregnant women and nursing mothers in the community. Ogunlewe, who was represented by the council’s Supervisor for Health, Elugbindin Benjamin, said the club’s initiative complements the council’s effort of providing quality healthcare to the people of Kosofe.
He urged other organisations to emulate the club’s gesture in supporting healthcare and indices in the council.
