Kano housewife arrested for beating, injuring pregnant co-wife for stepping on her praying mat
Men of the Kano State Police Command have arrested a house wife, Rukayya Bashir, for allegedly beating up and wounding her pregnant co-wife.
The two women, the suspect and the victim, are married to a man known as Alhaji Bashir Mai Chemist.
The suspect was said to have committed the offence in Dala community, Dala Council Area after accusing her co-wife of stepping over her praying mat.
According to a family source, Usman Kabir, the victim was accused of stepping on the praying mat of her co-wife, and that when she complained, she ignored her.
He further explained: “When the first wife insisted that she must tell her why she did a wrong thing, the suspect began to beat her until she inflicted injuries all over her body and she was rushed to the hospital. The two women are always fighting each other as rivals.
Contacted, Mai Chemist said although the bride had been arrested, they were in negotiations to see that the matter was settled in-house.
The police spokesman in the state, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who confirmed the suspect’s arrest, said investigation into the matter has started.
