10th NASS leadership: Learn from Umahi, support Akpabio – Nigerians in UK tell senators-elect
The Association of Nigerian Professionals based in the United Kingdom (UK) has urged some senators elect-still agitating for the seat of the senate president to borrow a leaf from the governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi and support Senator Godswill Akpabio.
Umahi, who is a senator elect and two of his colleagues eyeing the Senate presidency stepped down for Senator Akpabio.
The APC, however, zoned the positions of the senate president to Akpabio (Akwa Ibom), the deputy senate president to Baraus Jibrin (Kano), the House of Representatives Speaker to Abass Tajudeen (Kaduna) and the Deputy Speaker to Benjamin Kalu.
The party’s zoning arrangement thereafter witnessed some criticisms from some APC governors, senators and members-elect.
But the group, in a statement signed by its coordinator, Engr. Innocent Udoidiong and the protem secretary, Mr Kingsley Omolu after an emergency meeting on issues affecting the welfare of Nigerians based in the UK, urged relevant stakeholders to support the zoning resolution of the party, adding that those appointed for the offices already have the pedigree, competence and track record of achievements to deliver on their mandates.
“We appeal to other aspirants for the office to emulate Governor Dave Umahi and other aspirants who have so far stepped down for Senator Akpabio. His emergence as the consensus aspirant of the party for the position was well thought out,” the statement read in parts
