It’s shocking – Sultan of Sokoto speaks on murder of UI professor, Ajewole
The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar has reacted to the murder of Professor Opeyemi Isaac Ajewole in Ibadan.
Abubakar, who doubled as the Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, commiserated with the deceased family over the incident in a statement on Wednesday by Sai’du Maccido, the secretary to the Sultanate Council.
Recall that gunmen murdered Ajewole, a lecturer at UI, on Monday evening on his way home from work.
The Sultan of Sokoto described the killing as saddening and ‘very highly condemnable’.
“We learnt about the brutal killing of one of our professors at the University of Ibadan. As Chancellor of the university, I condemn the killing while also condoling the family of the late professor and the university community.
“We express our sadness for losing such an ingenious don and the originality that he had been able to contribute to the quality of education and knowledge service delivery at the university during his lifetime”, the Sultan stated.
In the meantime, the monarch, Abubakar, has called on the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to unravel the circumstances surrounding the gruesome murder and fish out the perpetrators for prosecution
