9th National Assembly was a rubber stamp – Senator Yaroe
Senator Binos Dauda Yaroe (Adamawa South Senatorial District) on Saturday declared that the ninth Senate was a rubber stamp.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain made the damning comment during the valedictory session of the Senate.
Yaroe told his colleagues that he agreed with those who labelled the legislature a rubber stamp saying they fell short in their oversight.
The lawmaker decried the approval of the N22.7 trillion Ways and Means funds after the initial resistance and despite criticisms.
Way and Means is the provision of revenue to meet national expenditure requirements and to implement the objectives of the economic policy.
The Senate approved the restructuring of the N22.7 trillion advance the Muhammadu Buhari administration collected from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
“The suspension of the Governor of CBN Godwin Emefiele, and subjecting him to investigation is a mild indictment on the National Assembly.
“I agree with those who say the ninth Senate was a rubber stamp. If we had done our oversight duties properly, we would not have gotten to this level,” Yaroe said.
The Senator was re-elected in the February 25 election. He polled 14,6407 votes to beat Adamu Samaila Numan of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who got 9,482 votes
