Tinubu is Free to investigate any Buhari Ministers, Other Appointees – Garba Shehu
Former presidential media aide, Garba Shehu, has dismissed media reports insinuating that his boss, Muhammadu Buhari, had told President Bola Tinubu not to investigate appointees who served in the last administration.
TRACKNEWS had reported that President Tinubu recently met his predecessor, Buhari, in London.
Hours after the meeting, the media was agog with reports of Buhari requesting President Tinubu to place a lid on on further investigation of politically exposed persons by the anti-corruption body, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
But in a statement on Thursday, Shehu dismissed claims that the former president did not make such request dismissing the reports as fake news.
“It is fake, let us not discuss it or give it energy or air of publicity. This is fake news, and nothing more,” Shehu announced. “Thankfully, there was no one other than the two leaders in the room in which they met, so no one was there to report their conversation.
“As much as possible, the former president wishes to remain outside the spotlight so as not to distract the new administration.
“He chose to go home in Daura hoping to find the type of quiet he wished for himself but realising that this was not the case, visitors trooping in morning, day and night, he moved out to a more distant place,” he added.
Recall that Nigeria’s secret police, the Department of State Services (DSS), recently arrested former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, and the ex-EFCC chairman, Abdurasheed Bawa.
Similarly, some sources close to the president have also revealled that more appointees of the past administration may be arrested in the coming days.
