Armed men attack Redeemed church during vigil, kill pastor, kidnap seven worshippers in Ogun
Armed men suspected to be kidnappers on early Saturday morning attacked a Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Ogun State during a vigil, killing a pastor and seizing seven worshippers.
The Ogun State So-Safe Corps Commander, Soji Ganzallo, in a statement through the corp’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Moruf Yusuf, confirmed the incident.
Gazanllo, who disclosed that the abducted victims were later rescued, explained that the incident happened around 12 am on Saturday.
Gazanllo said: “The special operation team of the Corps, Owode-Egba Zonal Command, under ACC Jimoh Rasaki Omoniyi, received a distress call that some of the members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Desires of Nations Parish, under Ogun Province 22, Abule-Ori in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area were attacked during a vigil; seven members of the church were kidnapped and a pastor was killed.”
“The officers of the corps were immediately deployed to the scene with a charge to go after the suspects and rescue the victims unhurt. The officers, who swung into action immediately and the efforts of the corps yielded a positive result as the seven victims were rescued unhurt.
“During the exchange of fire between our men and the kidnappers, one of the kidnappers was killed.”
He added that the joint team of the police and the So-Safe Corps were after the fleeing suspected kidnappers to capture them alive.
He said the bodies of the pastor and the kidnapper had been deposited in the hospital mortuary.
