When LP Submitted Its List To The INEC Peter Obi’s Name Wasn’t On The List -Tinubu Tells Court
Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, today informed the court that when Labour Party submitted the list of its members to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the name of the party’s presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi was not on the list that was submitted to the INEC, thereby claiming that Obi wasn’t qualified to contest the election.
Speaking further, the President noted that according to evidence, Peter Obi left the PDP on the 25th of May, 2022 and went into Labour Party on the 27th of May of the same year and Labour Party had its primaries on the 30th of May, just a few days after Peter Obi joined and that looking at the section 77 sub section 3 of the Electoral Act, every political party needs to submit the list of registered party members 30 days before their primaries.
Furthermore, the APC and its presidential candidate Bola Ahmed Tinubu accused Mr Peter Obi of double nomination, thereby demanding that court should automatically disqualify Peter Obi.
As it stands now, this particular case has been challenged at federal high court and appeal court and the case was struck out on these two different occasions and the same case is now being challenged at the supreme court, TVC news reported.
Therefore everyone is eagerly waiting to know the decision the Supreme Court will take as it regards to this particular issue, because any decision taken by the supreme court or the tribunal will have a tremendous effort on the ongoing election dispute at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.
