Ex militant leaders in the Niger Delta have expressed worries with the Niger Delta Development Commission ‘s 1000 job hope initiative programme, urging President Bola Tinubu to halt it.

President Abuja chapter of Urhobo Youth council and ex militant leader General Peter Aghogho in a statement to Vanguard said the programme could end up as another drain on the resources of the commission.

He said at the moment there was no board with state representatives for the commission, adding that with the current status it would be difficult for citizens to participate in the programme .

“Presently, the board is without representatives from each State, who then will the citizen’s reach out to as to fully per take in the process, we can not be fooled by what appears like another move to loot the treasury of the Commission.”, he said

“As citizens of Niger Delta, we are calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to please put a halt on the programme

“The announcement of the launch of the initiative made on Wednesday 12th July 2023 during the flag off of the Holistic Opportunity Project Engagement by the NDDC MD Mr. Samuel Ogbuku, does not represent the interest of the entire Niger Delta”.

The ex militant leader further enjoined President Tinubu to urgently constitute a board for the commission since he dissolved the one put in place by former President Muhammadu Buhari.

He said the federal government should discontinue the idea of running the commission with interim management.
